ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE:
Muslim Food Bank and Community Services (MFBCS) is a non-profit registered charity. The mission of MFBCS’s ASPIRE Program is to empower its clients by providing resources and capacity building. The four key areas of ASPIRE Program are the Community Case Work Program, Refugee Support Program, HOPE Project and Research Department. The ASPIRE Community Services Manager is responsible for planning, developing and implementing different programs of the HOPE Project.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This role will be responsible for the program development as well as the management, facilitation and  coordination of all program initiatives.
Education and Training

  • Create database of all resources available in the Greater Vancouver area on alcohol & drug treatment, safe way houses, counselling and rehabilitation centers
  • Plan, develop and implement seminars, symposiums and workshops on mental health and substance use
  • Design and develop a booklet and brochures for the clients
  • Plan, develop and implement volunteer training workshops

Funding and Marketing

  • Explore all possible funding opportunities from provincial and federal governments, as well as other agencies, such as Lotto Grants, John Howard Society and Elizabeth Fry Society
  • Be an articulate spokesperson for BC’s  community and social services
  • Initiate, promote and maintain positive working relationships with counsellors, rehabs and other service providers
  • Perform outreach activities, including developing and making public presentations about program services and activities

Volunteer Training and Management

  • Promote, recruit, interview and select a diverse pool of volunteers for training programs
  • Coordinate volunteer competency development and advanced training to ensure service quality
  • Monitor and evaluate the skills and abilities of volunteer facilitators, and provide appropriate written and verbal feedback, coaching and recommendations for improvement when appropriate
  • Supervise volunteers and coordinate volunteer recognition

Prison Outreach and Reintegration

  • Visit inmates in prisons at least once in a month
  • Connect inmates with educational and rehabilitation programs inside prison—AVP and Restorative Justice Programs
  • Assist inmates in smooth transition to communities
  • Connect them with all other social services available in BC

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary education (post grad degree level) in a related field such as Social Sciences, Social Work or Administration.
  • Experience in dealing with issues of  mental health and substance use
  • Working knowledge of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations including the prevention of suicide
  • Experience in case management and confidential record keeping practices
  • Experience in program management and delivery
  • Demonstrate good decision making in dealing with safety issues and with aggressive and/or intoxicated clients, if required
  • Mediation and negotiations skills
  • Conflict resolution and restorative facilitation skills
  • Effective counseling skills
  • Ability to speak second language is a strong asset
  • An effective communicator who is accomplished at interacting with immigrant families
  • Strong understanding of appreciation of cultural sensitivity

A combination of training, education and experience may be considered.

SCHEDULING:
Be able to accommodate a flexible schedule (available evenings and weekends and willing to travel across metro Vancouver)

COMPENSATION:
Competitive compensation package commensurate with education & experience. Range $60 000 – $70 000 per annum

Social Worker
JOB CATEGORY: Paid Position – Part-time (Contract)
REPORTS TO: ASPIRE Program Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This role will be responsible for counselling of clients as well as providing administrative support to the case worker program.
The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Supporting caseworkers with implementing effective employment search strategies, housing matters, ESL and developing career paths.
  • Managing complex cases.
  • Client support primarily focussing on immigrant settlement services,
  • Orientation and training of new case workers,
  • Supervising caseworkers , including check-in and debriefing caseworkers
  • Directly working with urgent or complex cases and coordinating with the larger ASPIRE team
  • This position will be working primarily with the Syrian Refugee Assistance Project.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field such as social work.
  • Registered Social Worker preferred.
  • Practical experience in social work, counselling or settlement training in a Canadian context,
  • Be able to accommodate a flexible schedule (available evenings and weekends and willing to travel across metro Vancouver)
  • Capable of working independently and/or with little supervisor
  • Basic computer skills including email, word and basic excel.
  • Arabic language skills would be a requirement.
  • An effective communicator who is accomplished at interacting with immigrant families and reporting back to the Social team Team Leaders.

  • Orientation and training of new case workers,
  • Manage the submission of required forms and documentation for the case worker program,
  • Assist in the check-in and debrief caseworkers
  • This is a part time paid position working primarily with the Syrian Refugee Assistance Project.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have:
Post-secondary education in a related field such as social work, or related Human Service equivalent; or equivalent combinations of post-secondary education and directly related experience.
Practical experience in social work, counselling or settlement training in a Canadian context,
Be able to accommodate a flexible schedule (available evenings and weekends and willing to travel across metro Vancouver)
Capable of working independently and/or with little supervision
Basic computer skills including email, word and basic excel.

Promotions Coordinator
Are you good with people? Interested in marketing and event coordination?

The MFB Promotions Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Being the voice of MFB and encouraging involvement in the organization.
  • Developing new and creative initiatives that help the MFB reach its goals.
  • Coordinate and organize community events such as fundraisers and community get-togethers.
  • Provide support to MFB leadership.
